What happened to our old website?

Good question!  The old website had to be some 10 years old at least and running on a proven Content Management System called DotNetNuke.  The site was running at a hosting company called Arvixe.  I set it up, authored it, and extended it.  It was really cool too!

I had written some “modules” including the automated Electronic ACR submission system which many people used.  It also had some niceties built into the DNN system.  It ran for years with minor down time until just recently.

Some years ago Arvixe merged with another hosting company and that’s when everything went sideways.  There were outages, down time, days of not hearing from their help desk, and just otherwise chaos.  After many months the chaos settled or so it seemed.

Months later I noticed the site was down and put in a ticket to Arvixe to investigate.  They restored the site and it ran until weeks ago.  I noticed it was down and again contacted Arvixe.  This time they couldn’t fix it!  Furthermore they didn’t know why it happened which is what I insisted upon them investigating.  If they could figure out why it was down then it could be fixed.  Alas they could do neither.  I suspect they upgraded the underlying framework on the servers which ultimately broke our site and didn’t want to admit it.

Fed up, I canceled hosting with Arvixe and started with another hosting company and using a tried-and-true CMS, WordPress.
